5 Books That Will Make You Feel Totally Empowered

We are deep into February, which means the glitter of the new year is wearing off, but there are still goals to go after and business to crush!  I thought I’d put together a list of books that are totally empowering to read, and make me feel warm and fuzzy even as winter drags on outside.

Bossypants by: Tina Fey

Bossypants is the story of how Tina Fey became Tina Fey. It’s about her history, her dreams and how she worked her butt off to be on Saturday Night Live.  Like her, it’s hilarious, light-hearted, and full of good advice to take to heart. I just love the title. Bossypants. She was bossy. And now she’s the boss!

I am Malala by: Malala Yousafzai

This is a book that reminds me just how privileged I am to live in the States, have access to education as a woman, and be able to speak my mind freely. The story also has a lot of background on the history of Pakistan, so that you get a lot of context if you’re a little bit shaky on that region, but you don’t want to be anymore! It’s a very inspiring and empowering read to know that one young voice has changed the world.

Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be by: Rachel Hollis

As women, we are told a lot of different things, and some of them can be damaging. Rachel Hollis tackles all the lies we’re told, and how to undo some of the things that might be holding you back. Seriously, it’s a must-read and a great book for forming a boss-babe book club!

empowering books to read

#Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso

Are you running your own business as a female entrepreneur? Then, this book is for you.  This book got a lot of press when it first came out, but I think it’s still worthwhile to pick up. Her story sounds a little bit like a Cinderella story; she was barely making ends meet and then founded a multi-million dollar company!

It’s nice to read a story like that sometimes. If it happened to her, it could happen to you! When you’re working hard on your business it can be hard to see the results flourishing right in front of you. Reading a book like this reminds me that it can all work out even bigger and better than I expected!

Becoming Michelle Obama by Michelle Obama

Need I say more? Michelle Obama is an amazingly inspiring woman. Her life began on the South side of Chicago, and she writes about how her parents set her up for success and she didn’t waver from the traditional path of success until Barack asked her what she wanted.

She talks about her struggle to reconcile the desire to have a career with the desire to be a mom, which is something I think we all can relate to these days as we try to be the very best we can be in all areas of our lives.
